Intro to hydroponics or gardening without soil

Welcome back to my happy place! My name is Shelbie & I run a small mobile gardening business locally called “Goddess Grow Ops.” My team and I are here to help you grow and set up the garden you might think is only in your dreams! Who knows? Maybe one day you’ll even have your very own set up on your back porch or even in your home.

You might be asking your self “set up?” What does she mean by set up? Hydroponics, of course! Now, why are people not using soil and switching to hydroponics?

FACT: people nowadays are getting scared. Scared by the rumors, GMO’s, chemicals in our air and on our food. Scared about what is it doing to our bodies.

If you start to grow your own food and learn to be more self-sustainable, you’ll never have to ask yourself that question again or worry about what your vegetables went through before they got to your table.

Life begins the day you start a garden. – Chinese proverb

Hydroponic systems just offer MORE! More size, more taste, more effective, more efficient. This form of gardening is on the rise and it’s most definitely the gardening of our future!

It’s no secret gardening is reaching new heights. People are not just gardening outside on the ground in the backyard anymore, they’re gardening all over, growing up, sideways, in and on the home, suspended in the air and even in fish tanks.

In the next couple of months, I’m going to go over a few new and what you might call crazy gardening techniques. But don’t be quick to shoot hydroponics down just yet, you might be shocked to find it’s just as rewarding, faster and even more FUN!!

Sure, you might hear it’s expensive, that the upfront costs are too much to get started or that it might be overwhelming and difficult. That’s far from the truth. Every garden takes time, money, a love for plants, nature and a little dash of science. What hydroponics can offer you will blow your minds and your gardens right out of the ground and into the water.

So let’s get to it…..what do these new forms of gardening offer? Faster grow time, a controlled environment, less weeds, less maintenance, less bugs, higher yield and continued harvesting!! This is all pretty great if you ask me!

There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments. – Janet Kilburn Phillips.

The rewards here definitely seem to outweigh the risk. So… why aren’t more people jumping on the getting growing faster bandwagon? The answer is simple no one knows enough to get started and, if you’re anything like me, I love plants, love experiments and hate to see good gardening go to waste!

Now, you don’t have to have a bunch of room, a special degree, a big building, let alone a big expensive grow system to have a successful harvest. Heck, they sell pretty cheap indoor countertop gardens at places like Walmart or Home Depot, as small as 3 plants with seeds, pods, a grow light and nutrients. Follow directions and boom you’re growing an indoor herb garden that waters and suns itself!

So, in reality, what seems unobtainable to most is readily available in small scale at your local superstores. It is fast and easy to try it out at little cost to you. Even better, get creative. If you are handy, or an avid gardener like myself, you can always build and design your own grow system using the same basic ideas. Now all that’s left is to choose the method to your gardening madness!!

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” – Greek proverb

Till next time, stay inspired as there’s always room to grow! Even in the smallest of spaces. Happy Growing!
