On Monday, September 20, crews plan to begin work to extend the eastbound left-turn lane on Cape Coral Parkway at Del Prado Boulevard.
Drivers can expect the following:
- East bound lanes of Cape Coral Parkway – periodic lane closures between Cape Coral Street and Del Prado Boulevard from 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.
- West bound lanes of Cape Coral Parkway – periodic lane closures from 8:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.
- Some portions of the project may require night work which will result in intermittent lane closures between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The project is an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on Cape Coral Parkway. Extending the turn lane will accommodate more vehicles and reduce congestion created by a backup of vehicles turning left.
The City’s Transportation Advisory Commission recommended the extension of the eastbound left-turn lane on Cape Coral Parkway at Del Prado Boulevard after an extensive evaluation of potential improvements to reduce congestion on Cape Coral Parkway. The eastbound congestion during peak morning hours is primarily due to the traffic bottleneck created by spillover traffic from the turn lane impeding eastbound through lane traffic.
In order to extend the turn lane the median opening at Cape Coral Parkway and Cape Coral Street will be closed, preventing a left turn from Cape Coral Street onto Cape Coral Parkway.
*The Transportation Advisory Commission meets monthly and is composed of the Mayor and four Council Members.
