The Cape Coral Police Department’s traffic safety efforts and participation in the 2019 Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge paid dividends, as traffic crashes were lowered in seven different categories of crashes.
The Cape Coral Police Department placed #2 in the 2019 Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge in Category 5, which consisted of agencies with 200-400 officers. The CCPD’s efforts resulted in the lowering of seven crash categories from 2017 to 2018:
- OVERALL TRAFFIC CRASHES: Decreased 14.77% from 2017 (2017 – 2,480 / 2018 – 2,139)
- SERIOUS INJURY CRASHES: Decreased 6.89% from 2017 (2017 – 90 / 2018 – 84)
- FATAL CRASHES: Decreased 47.62% from 2017 (2017 – 13 / 2018 – 8)
- DISTRACTED DRIVING CRASHES: Decreased 8.57% from 2017 (2017 – 584 / 2018 – 536)
- IMPAIRMENT-RELATED CRASHES: Decreased 16.57% from 2017 (2017 – 98 / 2018 – 83)
- MOTORCYCLE-RELATED CRASHES: Decreased 27.91% from 2017 (2017 – 98 / 2018 – 74)
- PEDESTRIAN/BICYCLE-RELATED CRASHES: Decreased 36.17% (2017 – 111 / 2018 – 77)
