The Cape Coral Police Department last week honored two Caloosa Elementary School students with the “Do The Right Thing” award.

Mason Long                    3th Grade – Caloosa Elementary School

Mason was able to assist his sister by making critical life-saving decisions while riding home on the bus. He heard his sister’s urgent medical alert and sprang into action. He immediately got in contact with his mother, gave his sister a snack and kept a watchful eye on her the rest of the ride home.

Romeo Nunez               5th Grade – Caloosa Elementary School

Romeo overheard a conversation that included details involving a person making statements they would bring a weapon to school and commit violence against the campus population. Romeo reported this to a trusted adult who advised the SRO, who in turn immediately began an investigation. The investigation revealed the person making the threats attended a school on Florida’s east coast, and the school SRO there was notified of the possibility of a weapon on their campus. Romeo’s action enhanced the CCPD SRO Unit’s ability to maintain the safety and security of Caloosa Elementary School and highlighted the valuable partnership between the school community and the Cape Coral Police Department.
