Be Your Own Detective — A free seminar hosted by Lee Clerk of Court

Learn the techniques used to uncover criminal records, property history or even a marriage status. Join Lee County Clerk Linda Doggett at a seminar “Be Your Own Investigator” on Feb 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lee County Public Library, 921 SW. 39 Terrace in Cape Coral.

Clerk Doggett will teach attendees how to search and view Lee County’s civil and criminal court documents and public records for free on the Clerk’s website. You will learn how to view mortgages, property deeds, marriage licenses, and other official documents recorded in Lee County.

Searching public records can assist with investigating:

  • Landlords and tenants
  • Businesses
  • Doctors and medical providers
  • Lee County genealogy and ancestry

“We always encourage our citizens to take every precaution to avoid becoming a victim of a scam or abuse,” Doggett said. “Searching your public records can help you avoid dangerous situations with the wrong people.”

Learn how to:

  • Register for the free Property Fraud Alert feature
  • How to redact your private information from public records in accordance with state law

Other topics covered in this seminar include how to:

  • Pay traffic tickets online
  • Access the county’s financial and audit reports
  • Where you can participate in foreclosure and tax deed auctions
  • Postpone jury duty
  • Report suspected guardianship fraud
