A man who drove the wrong way on Pine Island Road while intoxicated and took the lives of a father and son pled today to the crime and was immediately sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Today, October 31st, 2019 at 10:37 a.m., William Frederick Bohl (DOB: 3-12-84), entered a plea in regard to his arrest on April 29th, 2019. The arrest occurred following him driving the wrong way on SW Pine Island Road while intoxicated, and causing a crash with another vehicle resulting in the death of both occupants. 46-year-old Kevin Wayne Hamm of Cape Coral and his son, 20-year-old Christian Wayne Hamm, also of Cape Coral, both died as a result of the crash.
Bohl came to an agreement with the State Attorney’s Office and pled guilty to two counts of DUI Manslaughter. Following victim impact statements from many members of the Hamm family, Bohl was found guilty of both charges and sentenced to 20 years in a state correctional facility followed by 10 years of state probation. Additionally, Bohl’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle was removed by means of a lifetime driver’s license suspension.
The Cape Coral Police Department thanks all officers, forensics personnel, evidence personnel, and victim’s advocates who assisted with this case to bring it to a close, as well as of course the Hamm family, with the hope that it will give them some solace after the loss of their loved ones.
