Shop With a Cop Now Accepting Applications

A long-running tradition during the holidays is a program that the Cape Coral Police Department named  “Shop With A Cop.”

Shop with a Cop provides children whose families are having financial difficulties an opportunity to engage in a positive interaction with our Cape Coral Police Officers during the holidays.

The Cape Coral Police Department’s 17th annual “Shop With a Cop” event will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

This year’s event will be a joint effort between the FOP and the Cape Coral Police Department’s “Do The Right Thing” program sponsors.  The event allows officers to spend positive one-on-one time with Cape Coral’s children whose families are having financial issues. This program is focused on everyone having a great time!

Each year, the department chooses approximately 35-40 students to participate in the program. Students are picked up by police escorts, taken to breakfast sponsored by McDonald’s and then to Target to shop. There, with the help of their police officer, the students select gifts for each family member as well as something special for themselves.

After shopping, the students and officers head back to the police department where gifts are wrapped and the children enjoy a sponsored lunch from Moe’s Southwest Grill. Afterwards, they’re taken home with their wrapped presents.

The “Do the Right Thing” program reinforces the idea of sharing and giving while promoting the idea that law enforcement role models are crucial to the development of our youth. The positive one-on-one experience each student receives from “Shop with a Cop” is one that is never forgotten.
