SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound on Mohawk Pkwy in the left turn lane stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Chiquita Blvd S. Vehicle 2 was traveling northbound on Chiquita Blvd S in the left inside travel lane approaching the intersection with Mohawk Pkwy.

There was an unidentified vehicle traveling northbound on Chiquita Blvd S in the right outside travel lane making a right turn (eastbound) onto Mohawk Pkwy, causing traffic to slow down in the right lane. This slowdown in traffic obstructed the driver of Vehicle 1’s view of the inside travel lane.

Vehicle 1 pulled out onto Chiquita Blvd into the path of Vehicle 2. The front wheel of Vehicle 2 struck the left front wheel well of Vehicle 1. The impact caused the rear of Vehicle 2 to raise up and the passenger of Vehicle 2 was ejected and launched over Vehicle 1. The Passenger of Vehicle 2 came to final rest in the inside travel lane of northbound Chiquita Blvd.

The passenger of Vehicle 2 suffered life-threatening injuries on scene and was trauma alerted via ambulance to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver of Vehicle 2 was also transported to Lee Memorial by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered no injuries.

MCI Officer J. Barkley and P. Wilson responded to the scene as did Forensics personnel. A CCPD Victim’s Advocate responded to the hospital.

This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related. The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified.
