Sometime this weekend, the Cape Coral Police Department will be hosting a multi-jurisdictional DUI Sobriety Checkpoint.
The intention of this checkpoint to rid the roadways of dangerous drivers who are impaired by alcohol and or controlled substances. All drivers going through the checkpoint will be stopped for a short period of time to be interviewed by an officer. If the driver does not show any signs of impairment, the driver will be free to leave.
If a driver is showing signs of impairment, he/she will be escorted to a Standardized Field Sobriety Evaluation area and will be checked for impairment by an Officer trained in the area of DUI impairment and evaluation. All drivers arrested for DUI will be transported to the Lee County Jail.
