Bank Robbery Suspect Captured!

On May 28, 2019, around 12:54 pm, Cape Coral Police received a phone call from the Synovus Bank (205 Del Prado Boulevard South) in reference to a bank robbery that had just occurred.

Cape Coral Police Detective Jason Hicks of the Major Crimes Unit arrived on scene and obtained video surveillance of the suspect and later released photo stills of the suspect, in an attempt for law enforcement or a citizen to identify him.

Later that night, Detective Hicks met with two witnesses that had seen the release with the photos of the suspect from the bank robbery earlier in the day and knew immediately that it was Anthony Larry Masters (W/M, DOB: 11/11/1969).

Based on the positive identification of the suspect as Anthony Larry Masters, coupled with the confirmation he was wearing the same clothes that morning before the robbery, and other investigative techniques, Detective Hicks had probable cause to arrest Anthony for robbery.

In addition, the investigation revealed that he was also the suspect in the Bank Robbery at the Bank of the Ozarks on January 8, 2018, and the Bank OZK on May 17, 2019.

At approximately 2:00 am, Detective Hicks was notified that Masters Toyota Tundra was located at his girlfriend’s residence. Surveillance was conducted on the vehicle and around 7:14 am, Detective Fordham of the Cape Coral Police Department who is assigned to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, conducted a traffic stop on Masters vehicle at the 400 block of Cultural Park Boulevard.

Contact was made with Masters, who was driving the vehicle and he was placed under arrest. Search incident to arrest, officers located an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency on Masters person (in his front right pocket and his wallet). Officers on scene also observed a black bag in the front passenger seat of the Toyota Tundra, in plain view, which had a black Taurus Judge revolver with several rounds of ammunition.

Masters was transported to the Cape Coral Police Department and the Toyota Tundra was towed to the Cape Coral Police Department, pending a search warrant.

Masters was confirmed to be a convicted Florida felon and not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

Detective Jason hicks charged Masters with 3-counts of Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Masters was later transported to the Lee County Jail.
