***UPDATE*** Hit-and-Run Traffic Fatality

Cape Coral Police are investigating a fatal injury crash that left one dead and a vehicle that left the scene.

On April 3, 2019, around 6:25 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run traffic crash at Cape Coral Pkwy E and Coronado Pkwy.

Major Crash Investigators, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation. A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

CR#:  19-008708

ASSIGNED THI: Officer D. Gray

VEHICLE 1: White Lincoln Navigator SUV.  

DRIVER 1: Name not being released at this time.

DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Was not injured in the crash.

PASSENGER 1: Juvenile.

PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Was not injured in the crash. 

PEDESTRIAN 1: Gregory Moore, B/M, 9/26/1947, 808 Miramar St, Apt 10, Cape Coral, FL. 

PEDESTRIAN 1 INJURIES: Gregory Moore suffered fatal injuries in the crash. 

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound on Cape Coral Pkwy E in the outside straight lane approaching the intersection with Coronado Pkwy.

Pedestrian Gregory Moore was walking north across the westbound lanes of Cape Coral Pkwy E approximately 100 feet east of the intersection with Coronado Pkwy and NOT in a marked crosswalk.

The left front portion of Vehicle 1 collided with the right side of the Moore. Vehicle 1 failed to stop at the scene and continued driving westbound on Cape Coral Pkwy E. The collision with Vehicle 1 propelled Moore to the west, diagonally across the inside lane. Moore suffered fatal injuries and came to final rest adjacent to the north/south crosswalk on the east side of the intersection.

Vehicle 1 driver was identified as a person of interest during the course of the investigation and did come voluntarily to the Cape Coral Police Department for questioning. The hit-and-run investigation is ongoing. Vehicle 1 is currently in the custody of the Cape Coral Police Department.

THI Officer’s D. Gray and J. Barkley, as well as DRE Sgt H. Causer responded. CCPD Forensic Technician L. Lansky and VA’s C. Seymour also responded.

Alcohol/drugs MAY BE a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
