The Cape Coral Police Department Police Volunteer Unit was given an appreciation luncheon last week at the Yacht Club. This appreciation luncheon is just a small thank you for the amazing work that they do on a day-to-day basis.
Just to illustrate the amount of work and in-kind donations they give and do for the community, Police Department, and City, here are some statistics:
- In 2017 the Police Volunteer Unit logged 52,992 hours in-kind donations which resulted in $1,279,226.88 savings to the City of Cape Coral.
- In 2018, the PVU logged and amazing 59,484.35 volunteer hours in-kind donations for an approximate payroll savings of $1,468,668.60.
Some of the Police Volunteer Unit services include:
- Provides traffic control at City sponsored events and at crash scenes assisting Police Officers
- Traffic Watch Program – implemented to assist Officers with neighborhood speed complaints
- Kiddie Print & DNA program – provides this valuable service through community outreach events
- Vacation home checks
- Court document delivery
- Police Department vehicle transports
- PVU Marine Unit provides a presence on the waterways to assist boaters
- Provide assistance at both the Police Department and at City Hall at the information desks
