The Cape Coral Police Department, Cape Coral Fire Department, Cape Coral Yacht Club Pool and Parks and Recreation will be coordinating the Water Safety Day Event on Saturday, May 5th from 10 am-1pm at the Yacht Club Beach Pavilion located at 5819 Driftwood Parkway.
This will be the 7th year for this event which promotes all aspects of water safety in our community. We are reaching out to children and their parents in an effort to educate them in a fun and interesting way. Sadly, the impetus for this event was the many drownings of toddlers in pools in Cape Coral. We hope by holding such an event to raise awareness in our community of the dangers that go along with recreational water use, in a way that makes for a really fun day for the kids! Some of the day’s events will be:
- CPR Demonstration
- Paddling Safety Demo
- Sun Safety
- Safety Precautions Around the Pool
- Kids Fingerprinting
- Drowning Prevention
- Life Jacket Fittings
- Rescue Dive Gear
- “Passport Cards” to be completed at each table where kids learn a water safety lesson
- Prizes and Giveaways (Poster Contest/Passport Card Winners/Raffle for free swim lessons
The following organizations will be joining us: Golisano Children’s Hospital/Lee Health, Blake Sutor Water Safety Foundation, Infant Swimming Resource Self Rescue, JACD Foundation/Just Against Children Drowning, Gulf Coast Kayak, Florida Skin Care, Tropical Pools, Life Guard Pool Safety Fence Co, Sea Tow, Coast Guard Auxillary and Cape Coral Fire Department CERT.
This event is made possible by generous donations from the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
