Local Businesses Host Events in Support of Miles of Smiles Foundation

Southwest Florida nonprofit dedicated to Equine Psychotherapy for military veterans

Two local businesses will be hosting events in October and November to raise funds for the Miles of Smiles Foundation, an organization established in 2007 that helps Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In conjunction with Miles Ranch, the foundation provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). When practiced regularly, this nurtures adaptability and assists with developing problem-solving skills, resulting in decreased emotional intensity.

Featured events include:

  • Cru Restaurant, located at Bell Tower Shops, 13499 S. Cleveland Ave., #241, Fort Myers, will host the 3rd Annual, family-friendly Miles Ranch fundraiser on October 28 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A $25 donation includes an all-you-can-eat American cuisine, while a $150 donation includes an all-you-can-eat cuisine for two and complimentary first drink, as well as a certificate for a four-course meal for two to use at a later date. To purchase tickets, call (239) 810-0636 or visit www.milesranch.org.

Performed outdoors with the help of horses, EAP, allows veterans to recognize their strengths and abilities to cope with trauma.

“We are very grateful for the support of the community,” said Gail Doxie, Founder, and Mental Health Counselor. “The more opportunities we have to extend our reach, the more veterans we are able to help move forward and live an improved life.”
