A pedestrian was seriously injured in a traffic crash early Thursday morning that occurred right in front of his home in the 400 block of NW 1st Terrace. Cape Coral Police Patrol officers responded, as did CCPD Major Crash Investigators. The man was trauma alerted to a local hospital by EMS, and a Ping4alert was sent to warn drivers in the area of the active scene.
The preliminary synopsis from the crash investigator is below:
DATE: July 15, 2021 at 6:27 am
VEHICLE 1: Silver 2006 Toyota Corolla, Florida tag, driven by a 61-year-old male, of Cape Coral. Driver suffered no injuries in the crash.
PEDESTRIAN 1: 80-year-old male, of Cape Coral. Pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash
SYNOPSIS:
Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on NW 1st Terrace approaching the 400 block. Pedestrian 1 was walking his dogs on the right side of the roadway. As Vehicle 1 approached Pedestrian 1, the front bumper of Vehicle 1 struck Pedestrian 1 causing Pedestrian 1 to fall onto the hood and hit his head on the windshield.
In reaction to the impact, Vehicle 1 swerved left and came to a final rest on the left side of the roadway facing eastbound. Pedestrian 1 came to final rest in the roadway directly in front of Vehicle 1.
Vehicle 1’s driver suffered no injuries in the crash. Pedestrian 1 was trauma alerted to a local hospital via ambulance with life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.
Alcohol/drugs are not a factor in this crash. Speed is not a factor in this crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
It is unknown at this time if Pedestrian 1 spontaneously crossed in front of Vehicle 1 or if Pedestrian 1 was in the roadway prior to Vehicle 1’s approach.
The investigation is ongoing.
