A Cape Coral man is behind bars on charges involving child pornography after an investigation by the Cape Coral Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.
In September of 2020, the Cape Coral Police Department received a cybertip regarding child pornography being uploaded on the WhatsApp chat application. A subpoena was submitted to obtain the uploader information, and the investigation led to Gordon Shaffer (W/M, DOB: 8-2-45). The subsequent investigation led to the CCPD’s Major Crimes Unit submitting a warrant request to the State Attorney’s Office for Shaffer’s arrest.
The warrant was approved in June 2021, and a Cape Coral Police detective assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force located Shaffer and arrested him on June 22nd, 2021.
Shaffer was charged with transmission of child pornography by electronic device (seven counts), possession of sexual performance of a child (twelve counts), and possession or promotion of certain images of child pornography (ten or more images with one a video or depicting sexual battery on child, reclass 3rd degree felony to 2nd degree.)
Shaffer was transported to the Lee County Jail.
