Injured Bicyclist Identified Thanks to Public’s Help

The bicyclist involved in a crash that left him unconscious and unable to be identified HAS now been identified. Below is the Major Crash Investigator’s release on the crash:

DATE: December 11, 2019
TIME: 10:40 AM
LOCATION: De Navarra Parkway / Porto Vista Way

BICYCLE 1: Silver, Jamis, Satellite, 57CM, Road Bike
CYCLIST 1: Gary Eymann, W/M, DOB: 8-7-45, of North Fort Myers, FL

CYCLIST 1 INJURIES: Eymann suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Cyclist 1 was traveling southbound on De Navarra Parkway, just south of Porto Vista Way. Based on the investigation, it is determined that the chain of the bicycle was dislodged, impacting the leg of the cyclist. The front brakes were applied, which forced the bike into an end-over, sending the cyclist over the handlebars and onto the roadway.

Based on witness testimony, roadway inspection, and bicycle inspection, it is confirmed that this is a single bicycle crash with no motor vehicles involved. Cyclist 1 suffered serious bodily injuries as a result of the crash and was trauma alert transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Cyclist 1 was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

All possible means of identification were exhausted by investigators, which prompted a press release. With the assistance of the public, Cyclist 1 was identified at approximately 2:30 am on December 12th, 2019.

The investigators would like to thank anyone who assisted in the identification of the cyclist.

Next-of-Kin was notified by a CCPD Victim’s Advocate. Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash.
