On May 10, 2019, around 11:18 am, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service at the Bank of America located at 926 Cape Coral Pkwy E in reference to a Robbery in progress. The initial caller stated a bald Hispanic male, wearing a blue shirt attempted to steal a female’s purse. The suspect fled the scene westbound from the parking lot in a black Kia Soul.
Detective Kortright and Detective Hicks responded to the scene. A witness heard the victim yell for help and he could see a male attempting to pull a bag away from the woman. The witness began walking toward the male, who then fled the scene in a black KIA soul. Staff at the bank advised the male came into the Bank just prior to the attempted Robbery but did not have his name as he left prior to being helped.
The victim suffered a minor injury during the crime and was also holding an infant child in a carrier attached to her body when the suspect attempted to steal a bag she was carrying. The bag contained an undisclosed amount of money.
The Bank Security was contacted who was able to provide a still image of the male suspect. The photo was immediately sent out to Cape Coral Police Department personnel in an attempt to identify the suspect. The male suspect was later identified as Hugh Waldemar Jervis (W/M, DOB: 04/08/1973, 808 Miramar ST).
After a in-depth investigation, on May 17, 2019, Detectives Kortright and Hicks arrived at Midtown Apartments at 2316 SW 17th PL. Upon arrival, they observed Jervis loading boxes into the black Kia Soul. Jervis was immediately taken into custody without incident. Located on Jervis was a crack pipe and a baggie of Fentanyl.
Jervis knowingly and willfully inflicted physical and/or mental harm upon the victim’s infant child which would reasonably expect that by violently shaking the child during the Robbery could have resulted in physical or mental injury.
Jervis was placed under arrest and charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching, Child Abuse, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Without a Prescription (Fentanyl).
Jervis was later transferred to the Lee County Jail.
