Cape Coral Police make arrest in a fatal injury crash that sent one to the hospital and left two dead.
On April 29, 2019, around 10:20 pm, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a two (2) vehicle roll-over traffic crash at the 1600-block of SW Pine Island Road.
A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, FDLE, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation. A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.

VEHICLE 1: 2005 gold Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.
DRIVER 1: William Frederick Bohl V, 3-12-84, W/M, 2614 Gleason Parkway, Cape Coral, Florida 33914.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Bohl suffered minor injuries in the crash.
VEHICLE 2: 2005 gray Dodge Grand Caravan SE minivan.
DRIVER 2: Kevin Wayne Hamm, 10-14-72, W/M, 733 NW 37th Pl, Cape Coral, Florida 33993.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Kevin Hamm suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
VEHICLE 2-PASSENGER 1: Christian Wayne Hamm, 6-16-98, W/M, 733 NW 37th Pl, Cape Coral, Florida 33993.
VEHICLE 2-PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Christian Hamm suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
SYNOPSIS:
Vehicle-1 was traveling eastbound in the inside westbound lane (wrong direction of travel) of the 1600-block of SR 78 (SW Pine Island Rd).
Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound in the inside westbound travel lane of the 1600-block of SR 78 (SW Pine Island Rd).
As Vehicle-1 and Vehicle-2 neared a collision, both vehicles swerved towards the center median to avoid a crash. The front driver side of Vehicle-1 impacted the front passenger side of Vehicle-2. The impact caused Vehicle-1 to rotate sharply towards the driver side until Vehicle-1 was facing southwest in the inside westbound travel lane where Vehicle-1 came to final rest. The impact caused Vehicle-2 to roll over into the center median where Vehicle-2 came to rest on its roof.
The driver of Vehicle-1 was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of Vehicle-2 suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The passenger of Vehicle-2 suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
THI C. Mills, Ofc. P. Wilson, DRE Sergeant H. Causer, Forensic Technician K. Buckner-Brager, Forensic Technician L. Lansky, and VA C. Seymour responded to the scene.
Indicators of impairment were observed at the scene for the driver of Vehicle-1. Further investigation determined that the driver of Vehicle-1 was impaired at the time of the crash. The driver of Vehicle-1 was released from Lee Memorial Hospital, then placed under arrest for the following charges:
- Violation of F.S.S. 316.193(3)(c)(3)(a) (DUI Manslaughter): 2 counts
- Violation of F.S.S. 316.193(3)(c)(1) (DUI Property Damage): 1 count
- Violation of F.S.S. 984.06 (Violation of Probation): Active Warrant

CHARGES: 2-counts of DUI Manslaughter, DUI with Property Damage, and a Probation Violation Warrant
Alcohol/drugs ARE a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
