On April 19, 2019, around 9:00 pm, Officer Bianco conducted an area check at 3900 Gulfstream Parkway due to recent utility trailer thefts.
One of the victims advised that he had an additional trailer which was still parked behind his construction home. The victim had an excavator parked in front of this trailer which was now moved by an unknown subject and he believed it was to provide quick access to the remaining trailer.
Officer Bianco witnessed a blue Toyota Tundra pull onto the victim’s property around 10:18 pm and watched as the Toyota began backing up and then appeared to be hooking the victim’s construction trailer to the hitch. Additional Patrol Units quickly established a perimeter as the Toyota began to pull away with the trailer in tow.
The driver, Adan Herrera (W/M, DOB: 10/18/1990, 929 Arthur Street, Immokalee) was arrested as he got out of the driver seat. The passenger, James Crabtree (W/M, DOB: 07/16/1983, 6665 Trafford Oaks Road, Immokalee) got out and fled on foot. Officer Bianco pursued Crabtree but lost sight of him as he jumped over a fence and into a wooded canal bank. Officers set up a perimeter and awaited the arrival of K9 and the aviation unit.
K9 Officer Scrobe and K9 Carbon began searching and quickly tracked to a wooded area at the 1500 block of NW 38th PL, one street east of the original call location. The helicopter crew advised that the suspect was crouching in the bushes just feet away from Officers. K9 Officer Scrobe and K9 Carbon quickly apprehended Crabtree.
Herrera was charged with Grand Theft Vehicle.
Crabtree was charged with Grand Theft Vehicle and Resisting Arrest without Violence.
Both were later transferred to Lee County Jail.
