On March 4, 2019, around 12:53 PM, Officer Maduro conducted a traffic stop on a red Toyota for the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
Officer Maduro got behind the Toyota and turned on his patrol vehicle emergency lights just east of Santa Barbara Blvd at about the 100 block Cape Coral Parkway East. The Toyota continued traveling east, maintaining the same rate of speed, and then made a right turn onto Triton Court West, where it continued until coming to
Once the vehicle stopped, a white male driver immediately exited the vehicle and took off running. Officer Maduro began a foot pursuit while giving lawful commands for the male subject to stop. The male subject jumped into a nearby canal, where he swam towards the west, continuing to ignore lawful commands to stop. The male got out of the canal and continued running towards Sorrento Court.
Officer Maduro ran back to the vehicle where he found the female passenger, Ashley Lynn Shirley (W/F, DOB: 05/08/1993, 4913 Vincennes ST) outside the vehicle. Officer Maduro detained Shirley in handcuffs for the investigation.
While conducting an area check, near the vehicle, Sergeant Causer located a green plastic pencil container in a nearby storm drain, containing two syringes, a spoon with a piece of cotton swab, alcohol swabs, several cotton swabs, and a piece of paper towel. Contained within was also a small clear plastic container with a clear bag of Methamphetamine and a clear bag of brown heroin.
Shirley was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Law Enforcement Without Violence, and Permit Unauthorized Person to Drive.
She was later transferred to Lee County Jail.
The investigation into the male is ongoing.
