Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday, March 17

Cape Coral residents should mark their calendars for the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.  The Lee County Solid Waste Division will collect hazardous waste on Saturday, March 17 at the Public Works Annex at 1750 Everest Parkway (east of Del Prado).  Collection hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public.

Household chemical waste cannot be placed in dumpsters, compactors or curbside. Citizens need to dispose of these items at a scheduled drop-off collection day, which is a free service provided by Lee County Solid Waste in partnership with the City.

Residents can bring drain cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, liquid paint and thinners, polishes and strippers, fluorescent tubes, electronics, car and boat batteries, auto oil and antifreeze, gas propane tanks, flares and ammunition, and boat flares.

Last year, Cape residents dropped off 40,807 pounds of hazardous waste, and 45 percent was recycled.  The percentage recycled in 2017 was lower than prior years due to the lack of available recycling for latex paint.
