Good evening.

On the eve of welcoming students back to campus, I want to share some thoughts as our community continues to heal from the effects of Hurricane Irma.

First and foremost, I want to thank the hundreds of Lee County School District employees who volunteered their time at shelters, food distribution sites, and cleaning up our communities and campuses. Your dedication, compassion, and support reverberated throughout our community, showing again and again what amazing people we have impacting the lives of our children every day.

Our District maintenance department has done herculean work fixing the damage to our schools and cleaning campuses top to bottom. Our bus drivers have driven their routes, performing safety checks to ensure that stops are clear, and we have formulated plans to pick up children who have been displaced from their homes. Our Food and Nutrition Services Division has secured free breakfasts and lunches for EVERY student through October 20th.

Our administrators, staff, teachers, and counselors look forward to welcoming students tomorrow and getting back to the business of teaching and learning, while supporting those who have gone through frightening experiences.  

Hurricane Irma has been an unprecedented event affecting thousands of families in our county.

We are humbled and thankful our school district has been, and will continue to be, a vital support system for our community.
