The Chiquita Lock is inoperable until further notice due to structural damage caused by the hurricane.
The gates are open but traveling through the lock can be difficult and dangerous depending on water levels and tides. The structural damage prevents the opening and closing of the lock for normal operations.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has been notified of the damage and advised that leaving the gates open is the best option until repairs can be made. It is estimated that the lock will remain inoperable for the next 5-7 days, at a minimum.
Once a structural inspection is completed further updates will be provided.
