Student Arrested for Threatening to Blow Up School Bus

On September 15, 2022, Cape Coral Police Department officers were dispatched to 1809 SW 36th Terrace (Gulf Middle School) in reference to a school threat that occurred on September 14, 2022.

The School Resource Officer was contacted by a concerned parent after a juvenile, later identified as Bryce Miles Barrett (W/M 11-20-2009, 4340 SW 7th Place), made the statement that he would “blow up the bus” and “shoot up the school.” These threats occurred on the school bus in the presence of several other juveniles who all individually confirmed the statements of Mr. Barrett.

ARRESTED: Bryce Miles Barrett (W/M 11-20-2009, 4340 SW 7th Place)

CHARGES:
Threat to Throw, Project, Place or Discharge a Destructive Device F.S.S. 790.162

Cape Coral Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded and contacted Mr. Barrett at his home address. Mr. Barrett spoke to detectives, and when asked if he made the statement that he would blow up the school bus, he said, “yes, but I was only joking.” Mr. Barrett denied making the statement that he would shoot up the school.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Barrett made specific threats that put other students in fear. 

Mr. Barrett was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Mr. Barrett was charged with the following:

*Threat to Throw, Project, Place or Discharge a Destructive Device F.S.S. 790.162
