Pair of Car Burglars Try (And Fail) to Elude Police

A pair of vehicle burglars tried and failed to elude police and were quickly apprehended.

On August 23, 2018, at approximately 4:15 a.m., CCPD Patrol officers responded to a burglary in progress call at the 2300 block of NW 28th Avenue. The caller said he had observed a white male, later identified as Rigoberto Cisneros (DOB: 2-22-94) inside their vehicle in the driveway. He shouted at Cisneros who then fled the scene on foot.

While on the phone with police, a second man, later identified as Mario Sanchez (DOB: 9-16-95) walked into their yard and offered them money to disconnect on their phone call to police. When the victim refused, Sanchez fled on foot as well.

Officers arrived at the scene and established a perimeter. Officers saw Sanchez trying to conceal himself near a fence at the 2300 block of NW 27th Avenue and he began to run. Officers chased Sanchez on foot giving him orders to stop. One pursuing officer deployed his taser to stop Sanchez and he was detained.

Another officer located Cisneros walking on foot in the area and watched him try to conceal himself behind a tree. When the officer approached Cisneros on foot, Cisneros came out and was soaking wet from apparently entering a nearby canal while fleeing. Both Cisneros and Sanchez were arrested for burglary of a conveyance and resisting without violence. Sanchez then refused to get back inside the patrol vehicle and kept pushing against the officers. Once both were secured in the patrol vehicle, they were both transported to the Lee County Jail.

Later in the day on the 23rd, probable cause was developed for Cisneros for fleeing and eluding 2 hours prior to the vehicle burglary, after he had been observed at the 800 block of Cape Coral Parkway West in a white Honda committing multiple traffic infractions. The officer also recognized the Honda as being one that the Fort Myers Police Department was seeking for reckless driving and throwing a possible firearm out the vehicle window when FMPD attempted to stop it.

The CCPD officer initiated a traffic stop, at which time it failed to stop once again and fled. The white Honda was located in the area of the above vehicle burglary attempt. Cisneros was additionally charged with fleeing and eluding for the events leading up to the vehicle burglary charges.
