First Annual SOS: Sustainable Outreach Society Set for September 13th

The first annual SOS: Sustainable Outreach Society—Goodness To-Go event will be held on September 13th throughout Cape Coral and Lee County. The one day campaign raises food and financial donations to benefit Cape Coral Caring Center, which typically experiences an uptick in the number of clients it serves during summer months but a downturn in pantry goods and monetary donations.

Based on the highly successful SOS: Save Our Summer—Feed the Cape!, the event assumes a Robin Hoodesque personality, taking from the haves and giving to the have nots, with a designated day of giving, September 13th, dubbed “Goodness To-Go!”

The evolved event doesn’t require participants to leave home, attend an event or bring anything to a predetermined location. On the designated day, enlisted volunteers will visit donors homes or businesses to pick up food, baby supplies, toiletries, gift cards or monetary donations. Donors can participate by going to feedthecape.com to register for a pickup of donated items.

“We are grateful to the community for their generosity and support of an event like SOS,” said Julie Ferguson, Executive Director of Cape Coral Caring Center. “Making it easier for the public to get involved affords us the opportunity to reach a broader audience to accomplish our goal of ensuring that no family has to experience the hardships of hunger.”
