The Cape Coral Police Department responded to an early morning traffic crash involving a pickup truck and a bicycle at the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard that sent the bicyclist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A Major Crash Investigator responded to the scene, and a Ping4alert was sent warning drivers to avoid the area. The Major Crash Investigator’s synopsis is below:

DRIVER-1: Jacob C. Sparks, DOB: 11-5-93, W/M, of Fort Myers, FL.
DRIVER-1 INJURIES: Sparks was not injured in the crash.
BICYCLIST-1 (DRIVER): 13-year-old juvenile, B/M, of Cape Coral, FL.
BICYCLIST-1 (DRIVER) INJURIES: The juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
SYNOPSIS:
Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound in the inside travel lane of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S), approaching the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway E. Bicyclist-1 was traveling eastbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway, crossing the southbound lanes of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S), riding on the outside edge of the painted crosswalk.
Bicyclist-1 crossed the northbound lanes of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S) directly in the path of Vehicle-1, causing the front of Vehicle-1 to impact the right side of Bicyclist-1. The bicycle and bicyclist were propelled onto the hood of Vehicle-1 and carried through the intersection. The bicycle left the hood of Vehicle-1 and came to final rest in the northbound center travel lane of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S), approximately 157 feet from the initial area of impact. Bicyclist-1 left the hood of Vehicle-1 and came to final rest in the northbound center travel lane of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S), approximately 217 feet from the initial area of impact.
Vehicle-1 pulled into a parking lot north of the traffic crash, where the driver of Vehicle-1 called 911 and waited for police and medics to arrive. Multiple uninvolved witnesses indicated that the light was green for the northbound lanes of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard S) at the time of the traffic crash.
Bicycle-1 was not equipped with a headlight or tail light. Bicyclist-1 was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in dark clothing.
The driver of Vehicle-1 was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene. Bicyclist-1 suffered life-threatening injuries and was trauma alerted to a local hospital by ambulance.
MCI Officer C. Mills and other CCPD Traffic Units responded. Forensics and a Victim Advocate also responded.
Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. The next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
