The “Do The Right Thing” ceremony for December 2017 was held today, Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 in City Council Chambers.  Cape Coral Economic Development Manager Dana Brunett was the guest speaker.

This monthly ceremony is open to the public on the 3rd Wednesday each month. We encourage our community to come out and show their support to these outstanding young men and women who “do the right thing.”

Ten (10) Cape Coral students were recognized this month. 

Larissa Debona                                                      Caloosa Middle School, 8th Grade
Kylie Nagle                                                             Caloosa Middle School, 8th Grade

Larissa and Kylie heard a news story about a little boy in Maine that is dying from cancer and loves Christmas. They asked the school principal for permission to get signatures from teachers and students on a Christmas card for the little boy. Larissa and Kylie are also putting together a care package for him so he can celebrate Christmas early.

Siarra Hand                                                            Caloosa Middle School, 7th Grade

Siarra saw a student taking prescription medication outside of the clinic and alerted a school official.

Letizia Nogara                                                        Mariner Middle School, 6th Grade

Letizia has intervened and de-escalated various incidents of bullying. She has a gift for speaking to her peers and leaves them with a better knowledge of how words can help or hurt. Letizia is always patient with other students, offers them a positive attitude and remains confident that doing the right thing is always the best thing for her to do.

Nico Roman                                                            Mariner High School, 11th Grade

Nico was standing in line to buy a Homecoming ticket when he observed another student crying over the fact that she had lost her ticket money. Instead of buying a ticket for himself, he used his money to purchase a ticket for the other student.

Ashley Sosa                                                       Challenger Middle School, 6th Grade

As Ashley was coming into school in the morning, she found a purse on the picnic table outside of the building. She immediately turned in the purse to a school official.

Julih Varnes                                      Hector Cafferata Elementary School, 1st Grade

Julih is a thoughtful student who is always willing to help her classmates. 

Jayden White                                   Hector Cafferata Elementary School, 5th Grade

Jayden is always willing to volunteer his time to assist other classmates, from explaining to tutoring.

William Winning                                                    Ida Baker High School, 9th Grade

At school, a small group of students got into an altercation. William de-escalated a potentially dangerous, chaotic situation by asking the on lookers to calm down and have a seat.  

Arlan Won                                                                Oasis Middle School, 8th Grade

Arlan is always putting others before himself. On two occasions he found money on the ground and turned it in. Arlan found himself in a situation where friends were smoking. Instead of giving in to peer pressure, he removed himself from the situation and alerted an adult.
