The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Lee, Charlotte, and Hendry Counties has selected Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore as their newest member of the Board of Directors. 

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. 

NAMI Lee, Charlotte and Hendry Counties was founded in 1981 in Fort Myers by a group of family members who were tired of their children bearing the burden of blame for their mental illnesses. Unhappy with the lack of services available and the treatment of those living with mental health disorders, the family members sought out others with similar concerns.  

The first meeting held to address these issues in mental health was much larger than expected, and seeking to continue the momentum, the group made the decision to join NAMI.  Recognizing the potential to make a true difference in our community by sharing NAMI’s vision and offering NAMI Signature Programs the group pursued incorporation and became an affiliate organization.

NAMI’s mission is to provide advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been selected to serve on the Board of Directors for NAMI. We have partnered with NAMI for many years to provide Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) to our officers and professional staff.
