SYNOPSIS:

V1 was traveling south at the 100 block of Del Prado Boulevard in the center lane of travel.

Pedestrian 1 was crossing diagonally across the 100 block of Del Prado Boulevard from east to west.

Pedestrian 1 was standing in the median and walked into the southbound travel lanes of Del Prado Boulevard. Pedestrian 1 crossed the inside left lane and entered the center southbound lane.

V1 was traveling south in the center lane when the pedestrian violated their right of way. The front driver’s side bumper of V1 struck the right side of the pedestrian, causing the pedestrian to be projected forward. The pedestrian came to final rest in the center lane approximately 42 feet from the area of impact.

The driver of V1 applied the brakes and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the crash. After impact, V1 crossed the outside right lane and mounted the curb on the west side of Del Prado Boulevard. V1 then traveled a short distance on the sidewalk before the front bumper struck a large concrete electrical pole. The impact with the pole caused V1 to rotate counterclockwise and land on top of bushes in front of the businesses at 130 Del Prado Boulevard South.

CCFD and Lee County EMS responded, and the pedestrian was trauma-alerted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of V1 was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
