Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Traffic Crash

Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash that sent one to the hospital.

On January 11, 2019, around 4:38 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash at the 600 block of Del Prado Blvd S. 

The pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation. A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1:   2001 gray Chevy Tahoe SUV.

DRIVER 1:   62 year old Male.

DRIVER 1 INJURIES:   Was not injured in the crash.

PEDESTRIAN 1:   40 year old Male.

PEDESTRIAN 1 INJURIES:   Suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound in the inside travel lane of the 600-block of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard South), in front of Cape Coral Hospital. Pedestrian-1 was running eastbound across the southbound and northbound lanes of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard South) mid-block, outside of the available marked crosswalks. Pedestrian-1 crossed directly in the path of Vehicle-1 causing the front passenger corner of Vehicle-1 to impact Pedestrian-1. Pedestrian-1 came to final rest in the northbound center travel lane of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard South). Vehicle-1 made a controlled stop and came to rest in the inside left turn lane of CR 867A (Del Prado Boulevard South).

Pedestrian-1 suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver of Vehicle-1 was not injured. 

Major Crash Investigators, a Drug Recognition Expert, Forensic Technician, and a Victim Advocate responded.

Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
