Fatality Results From Single Vehicle Crash

Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash that sent three people to the hospital and left one deceased.

Just after 12:00 AM on September 29th, Cape Coral Police responded to a single crash at 1600 block of NW 25th LN in reference to a severe traffic crash involving a mailbox, two boats, a house, and a vehicle in the pool.

Three occupants of the vehicle were hospitalized and one occupant was pronounced deceased. A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation.  A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: Black 2007 Toyota RAV4 SUV, Florida tag# KLXG64.

DRIVER 1: Gavin Clutts, W/M, 12/31/1999, of Cape Coral, FL.

DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Clutts suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 1 RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER: Michael Alan Velez, W/M, 11/13/1997, of Cape Coral, FL.

VEHICLE 1 RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER INJURIES: Velez suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 1 LEFT REAR PASSENGER: Juvenile, of Cape Coral, FL.

VEHICLE 1 LEFT REAR PASSENGER INJURIES: The juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 1 RIGHT REAR PASSENGER: Ryan D. Whicker, W/M 6/28/2000, of Cape Coral, FL.

VEHICLE 1 RIGHT REAR PASSENGER INJURIES: Whicker suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling southwest on Wilmington Pkwy, approaching the intersection with Chiquita Blvd N at an extremely high speed. Upon reaching the intersection, Vehicle 1 failed to stop at the stop sign and continued across Chiquita Blvd N.

Vehicle 1 entered a vacant field on the southwest corner of the intersection and continued traveling southwest across the field at a high speed. As Vehicle 1 approached NW 16th PL, it collided with a mailbox in front of 2549 NW 16th PL.

Vehicle 1 crossed southwest over NW 16th PL and then drove onto a second vacant field and continued traveling at a high speed to the southwest.

Vehicle 1 then collided with the left side of a 29-foot boat/trailer parked on the side of the residence at 1623 NW 25th Ln. The impact forced the boat to the west where it collided with a second smaller boat/trailer. After striking the boat, Vehicle 1 became airborne and began to tumble to the west where it collided with a gable on the rear of the roof of the residence at 1623 NW 25th Ln. Vehicle 1 then rolled off of the roof of the house, collided with the screened lanai, and came to final rest in the swimming pool of the residence, upright and facing to the northeast.

One rear passenger was able to escape the vehicle through a rear passenger door. A second rear passenger was removed from the vehicle by CCFD Fire/Rescue personnel. The driver of Vehicle 1 was trapped in the vehicle but was removed by CCFD Fire/Rescue personnel. The right front passenger was also trapped and submerged in the vehicle.

The rear passengers of Vehicle 1 suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital by Air Ambulance.

The driver of Vehicle 1 also suffered life-threatening injuries and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The right front passenger in the vehicle was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

 The residents at 1623 NW 25th Ln were in the home at the time of the collision but were not injured.

Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
