Serious Crash Leaves One in Critical Condition

Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash that sent one person to the hospital in critical condition.

Around 8:00 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash at Del Prado Blvd N and De Navarra Pkwy.

A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation.  A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

DATE:  September 27, 2018

LOCATION: Del Prado Blvd N/De Navarra Pkwy

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on De Navarra Pkwy in the inside straight lane approaching the intersection with Del Prado Blvd N and came to a stop at the stop sign. Vehicle 2 was traveling northbound on Del Prado Blvd N in the inside lane approaching the intersection with De Navarra Pkwy.

Vehicle 1 then moved straight across the southbound lanes of Del Prado Blvd N into the center median crossover and again stopped. As Vehicle 2 passed through the intersection, Vehicle 1 began to cross the northbound lanes into the path of Vehicle 2. The front of Vehicle 1 collided with the left rear tire/quarter panel of Vehicle 2.

After the impact, Vehicle 1 rolled to a stop on De Navarra Pkwy on the east side of the intersection. The impact caused Vehicle 2 to rotate counter-clockwise as it continued traveling northbound in the inside lane.

As Vehicle 2 rotated to nearly 180 degrees, its right-side tires collided with the center median curb and then skidded sideways onto the grassy center median. As Vehicle 2 continued skidding to the north, its right-side tires dug into the ground which caused the vehicle to roll to its right. As Vehicle 2 rolled to the right the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected through the broken driver’s window and came to rest in the southbound lanes of Del Prado Blvd N behind the final rest position for Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 rolled several times and came to final rest upright and facing to the southwest in the southbound lanes of Del Prado Blvd N.

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries in the crash; the passengers of Vehicle 1 were not injured. The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered serious life-threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition.

Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
