A motorcyclist lost his life after a serious crash on Friday afternoon at the 1200 block of Diplomat Parkway West. Traffic was blocked for several hours for the investigation, and a Ping4 alert was sent warning drivers in the area. The synopsis of the crash from the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: 2003 silver Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle, Florida tag.
DRIVER 1: Recardo A. Perez Jr, 12/16/97, W/M, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Perez Jr suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
VEHICLE 2: 2005 white Chevrolet Astro Van, Florida tag.
DRIVER 2: Alfred W. Larson, 07/08/1950, W/M, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Larson was not injured in the crash.
SYNOPSIS:
Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound in the outside right lane of Diplomat Pkwy West at approximately the 1200 block.
Vehicle 2 was also traveling westbound in the outside right lane of Diplomat Pkwy West at approximately the 1200 block in front of Vehicle 1.
Vehicle 1 was traveling at a high rate of speed as it approached the rear of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 attempted to slow but was not able to slow down enough and the front of Vehicle 1 struck the rear of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 began to spin/tumble along the roadway while still moving westbound. Vehicle 1 came to a final rest in the inside left lane of westbound Diplomat Parkway approximately 179 feet from where Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2.
The motorcycle driver was ejected over the handlebars and collided with the rear window of Vehicle 2. The driver came to final rest in the center median approximately 194 feet from where Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 continued west on Diplomat Parkway and made a U-turn and came to final rest off the right side of eastbound Diplomat Parkway.
The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered life-threatening injuries on scene and was trauma-alerted via ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of Vehicle 1 later died as a result of his injuries. The driver of Vehicle 2 was not injured.
MCI Officer J. Barkley and D. Gray responded to the scene. A Victim’s Advocate and Forensics also responded.
This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug-related. The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified. Driver 1 was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
