DUI Crash Sends 2 to Hospital with Serious Injuries; Driver Arrested

A Cape Coral woman is behind bars after driving drunk and striking a pedestrian.

Shortly after 2:00 PM yesterday, Cape Coral Police responded to a serious injury crash in the 3000 block of Del Prado Boulevard South.  The investigation revealed that Colleen Marie Mulder was driving southbound on Del Prado Boulevard and rear-ended another vehicle, forcing that vehicle up onto the sidewalk where it collided with two pedestrians who were walking north on the sidewalk on the west side of Del Prado Blvd S. The vehicle then collided with a street sign and several newspaper boxes before coming to final rest in the parking lot.

The pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Additional Patrol officers, Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, and Forensics responded to the scene.  A Ping4 alert was sent to notify drivers of the resulting road closure and delay.

Mulder showed signs of impairment at the scene and was taken into custody.  Mulder was medically cleared at the hospital due to complaints of injuries.  While there, a search warrant for a blood draw was executed.

Mulder was identified as the driver of a vehicle at fault in a traffic crash involving serious bodily injury to two persons, damage to the vehicle of another, damage to a street sign, as well as a row of five newspaper/magazine distribution boxes, and was found to be driving with a medical BAC of 0.226%. She has been charged with Driving under the Influence .15 or higher in violation of FSS 316.193(4), two counts of DUI w/Serious Bodily Injury in violation of FSS 316.193(3)(c)(2), and three counts of DUI w/property damage in violation of 316.193(3)(c)(1).
