Friday Night Traffic Crash Results in Fatality

A traffic crash at the 100 block of Hancock Bridge Parkway East late Friday night resulted in one fatality. Officers responded to the scene, as did Major Crash Investigators, Forensics and Victim Advocates. The synopsis from the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1:  2016 purple Harley Davidson TruGlide M/C, Florida tag.
DRIVER 1:  Leslie W. Burden, 10-25-46, W/M, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES:   Burden suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
PASSENGER 1: Charlotte M. Disilvestro, 11-27-67, W/F, of Cape Coral, FL.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES:  Disilvestro suffered serious injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 2:  2014 white Jeep Wrangler, Florida tag.
DRIVER 2:  Jacqueline J. Castillo, 12-1-81, W/F, 216 SE 31st Terrace, Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES:  Castillo was not injured in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound in the inside left turn lane of Hancock Bridge Parkway E in the 100-block. Vehicle 2 was traveling westbound in the inside travel lane of Hancock Bridge Parkway E in the 100-block. Vehicle 1 turned left across the westbound lanes, directly in the path of Vehicle 2, resulting in the front of Vehicle 2 impacting the right side of Vehicle 1. The impact pushed Vehicle 1 west across the roadway then down on the right side of the vehicle, where it traveled northwest across the westbound lanes. Vehicle 1 then struck the curb causing the vehicle to mount the curb and return to an upright position, where it came to final rest partially on the curb and partially in the roadway. The driver of Vehicle 1 was thrown northwest over the vehicle into an adjacent field where the driver of Vehicle 1 came to final rest. The passenger of Vehicle 1 separated from the bike after the vehicle struck the curb and came to final rest on the east side of the vehicle. Vehicle 2 continued along the roadway for approximately 419 feet before pulling to the curb in the westbound right turn lane and coming to final rest.

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered fatal injuries and was transported as a Trauma Alert to a local hospital by ambulance where he later died as a result of injuries sustained in the traffic crash. The passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered serious injuries and was transported as a Trauma Alert to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver and passenger of Vehicle 1 WERE NOT wearing helmets.

The driver of Vehicle 2 was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene. The driver of Vehicle 2 showed signs of impairment and was arrested on scene.

Due to injuries, MCI Officers C. Mills and D. Gray responded. DRE Officer H. Esterle, Officer J. Barkley, Forensics and a Victim Advocate also responded.

Alcohol/drugs ARE a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.

***There are 3 traffic fatalities and 6 MCI usages in our city in 2018. (There are 0 fatalities that are ruled “medical” and the cause of death is not related to injuries in the traffic crash.

These 0 “medical” fatalities are not included in the number of traffic fatalities).***
