Cape Coral Police Department to Present Gourmet Chef with Community Partner Award

The Cape Coral Police Department will present Shannon Yates, a gourmet chef, restaurant pioneer, and owner of Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery and The House of Pain (HOP) in Cape Coral, with the Community Partner Award for 2017. The department’s Annual Ceremony of Recognition is on Wednesday, January 31st, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club.

The Chief of Police gives the Community Partner Award, along with the Citizen Recognition Award, to any citizen or business that has assisted the police department in any significant endeavor.

Yates is being presented with a plaque for his contributions to the Cape Coral Police Athletic League, a nonprofit organization that relies on donations to register local children in a sports program of their choice. Yates serves on the board of directors, often places officers in contact with youth and their guardians, and hosts fundraisers on behalf of the organization. Most recently, he conducted a fundraiser at the Cape Coral Yacht Club for a lifetime-achievement event for a fellow chef.

“Shannon is the innovative creator of some of the most delicious meals this side of Southwest Florida, but to narrow his abilities with such an exclusive label would be a grave injustice to his larger-than-life character,” said Captain Anthony Sizemore, Cape Coral Police Department, Investigative Services Bureau. “He truly is an all-around great person who selflessly dedicates himself to a cause that is shaping the lives of tomorrow’s leaders in a way that they will never forget.”
