A Cape Coral man has been arrested for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly weapon after shooting a person at a condo party last night.
Last night at around 10:55 PM the residents at the condominiums located at 4719 Santa Barbara Boulevard South, were having a condo gathering in the pool area when an argument started. Philip Bonvino was staying at his girlfriend’s condo, and he began arguing with party-goers. Residents stated that Bonvino became vulgar and insulting, and they told him that he had to go. Bonvino refused to leave and continued being argumentative with others. The condo vice-president escorted Bonvino from the pool area to the parking lot and told him not to return.
Two people were standing near the parking lot/bathroom building when they heard the gate opening. One of them saw a red laser light moving from side to side, and then witnessed Bonvino approaching them with a firearm. One of them charged at Bonvino to stop him. Bonvino shot the victim, and they fell into some bushes by the condo. The other guests rushed to assist and were able to disarm Bonvino after struggling with him.
They held Bonvino until CCPD officers arrived. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds to his abdomen. The scene was secured, and the firearm was seized by officers when they arrived.
Based on the witness statements, it was clear that Bonvino was not defending himself. Bonvino had left the scene for 20-30 minutes and returned with the firearm to inflict harm.
Forensics responded to collect evidence and photograph the scene. Major Crimes Unit Detectives responded and took over the investigation.
Bonvino was transported to a local hospital to get treatment for an injury to his eye that occurred when the guests attempted to disarm him. Bonvino was booked and processed, and transported to the Lee County Jail.
