Hospital Worker Arrested for Stealing from Deceased Patient

A hospital worker who stole a necklace off of a deceased patient he had been caring for so that he could pawn the necklace has been arrested.

On October 6, 2017, the Cape Coral Police Department was contacted by Lee Health Systems loss prevention unit. Loss prevention informed police of an investigation into a theft that had occurred on September 15th at Cape Coral Hospital, in which Reinier Padron Molina (DOB: 11-5-96) had removed a gold necklace valued at $1,938 from the neck of a patient just after the patient passed away. Padron Molina then pawned the necklace at Cape Jewelry & Pawn.

Detective Rosario with the CCPD Property Unit followed up on the case, collecting several pieces of evidence from Cape Jewelry & Pawn, who had all the proper forms and identification related to the transaction. Probable cause for the arrest of Padron Molina was developed, and on October 19th he was arrested and charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and fraud for falsely claiming to the pawn shop that he rightfully owned the necklace. Padron Molina was transported to the Lee County Jail.
