The “Yeti Thief” who stole 2 Yeti coolers from a local hardware store was caught due to a tenacious victim, excellent surveillance footage and citizen cooperation.
On October 9, 2017, at approximately 4:10 p.m., a white male entered Family Hardware located at 622 SE 47th Terrace. He grabbed 2 Yeti coolers valued at $300 each, ran out the back door of the store and escaped via a waiting vehicle. Cape Coral Police responded and were advised by the owner of the store that surveillance cameras were operable, and that a copy would be provided to police once downloaded.
The following day on October 10th, Cape Coral Police were contacted by the store owner who provided the surveillance video. He also advised police that he had been contacted by citizens on Facebook who recognized the suspect as Joshua Cunningham (DOB: 12-6-90). It was learned that Cunningham had been arrested earlier on the morning of the 10th in Fort Myers on trespassing and failure to appear charges. Probable cause was developed and charges of grand theft were brought against Cunningham where he was already residing in the Lee County Jail.
ARRESTED: Joshua David Cunningham, W/M, DOB: 12-6-90, of 1827 NW 3rd Place, Cape Coral FL.
CHARGES: Grand Theft (2 counts)
