While walking through my local beer store, I noticed a label that jumped out at me. It read Southampton and had a picture of a house on it. I instinctively recognized the house as it opened up a flood of memories of Southampton.
During the summers, and occasionally in the winter, my friend Tom and his wife Carol would invite me and my bride to visit them in Southampton. At some point, we would end up at the Southampton Publick House, either late night drinks at the bar or Sunday brunch or sometimes both. The food was always good and the atmosphere fantastic, a rustic place with a neighborhood pub appeal, perfect for me. Those were some really good times; maybe I can relive them drinking this Double White?
Their Double White Ale (aka Witbier) is served year round and has won a few medals over the years. This Double White is a unique take on Belgian White Beers. They created this double style to add more than just alcohol to this Belgian beer; they doubled up on all the flavors too. It’s cloudy, pale gold color is what you expect to see from a Witbier and the smell is full of cloves, coriander, and vanilla. The only thing missing is a fireplace; these aromas pull me into Fall season.
Oooooh. This beer is delicious. It starts off with your wheat and grains and then your taste buds are hit with a wave of bold citrus and spice. Everything nice! Much more flavor than I expected. It’s well balanced from beginning to end and I think I found my new favorite Witbier.
If you’re looking to venture out of your comfort zone, getting ready for fall, or just meeting some friends, go pick up some Southampton Double White and make some memories of your own. You’ll be glad you did.
Cheers
