The City of Cape Coral is partnering with the Lee County Solid Waste Division to collect bulk items and household chemical waste (HCW) on Saturday, February 4, 2022, from 7 – 11 a.m., in the City Hall parking lot,1015 Cultural Park Boulevard.
This quarterly event is another way for residents to dispose of bulk and household chemical waste safely and responsibly. Residents should use the main entrance to City Hall on Cultural Park Blvd. to drop off items. Materials will be collected from vehicle trunks and truck beds.
Proof of residency may be required to drop off items. Photo IDs with a Cape Coral address and utility bills from an active Cape Coral account are acceptable items to prove your residency. Items accepted at the event include:
Drain cleaners and pool chemicals
Pesticides/herbicides
Liquid paint and thinners
Polishes and strippers
Fluorescent tubes
Electronics
Car and boat batteries
Automotive oil
Gas propane tanks
No white goods (ex: refrigerators, washing machines, etc.) will be accepted.
The City of Cape Coral’s Special Events is hosting the 32nd Tour de Cape bike ride.
Bikers participating in the Tour de Cape will be utilizing roadways across Cape Coral (marked in yellow on the map) on Sunday, January 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution and be aware of bicyclists.
The weekend’s festivities begin with a kick-off celebration at Rotary Park, 5505 Rose Garden Road, on Friday, January 20, from 4-7 p.m. Participants can pick up race packets, maps & t-shirts.
The Tour de Cape includes a 5K and 3-mile Kids Ride on Saturday, January 21, and on Sunday, January 22, riders have a choice of 15, 30, 62, or 100-mile bike tours in the northwest and southwest regions of Cape Coral.
The William Austen Youth Center is hosting its 9th Annual Classic Car Show on Saturday, January 21, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The show will be held at the Youth Center, 315 SW 2nd Ave, and is free for spectators.
The car entry fee is $25 with proceeds benefitting the William Austen Youth Center Scholarship Program.
Those who wish to enter a car in the show can choose from six classes:
1900-1940
1941-1953
1954-1964
1965-1969
1970-1987
The first 50 cars to register will receive a dash plaque.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services staff will be at off-site locations to be available for residents to bring stray animals to be scanned for microchips for the “Do What’s Right – Reunite” initiative.
The New Year’s holiday creates an influx of stray pets because of firework celebrations, which frequently startle dogs and cats. Animal Services experiences this each year and recognizes that it is not always convenient for residents to bring animals they have found to the county facility within 24 hours as required by county ordinance.
To assist with this, staff will be at the following locations for Do What’s Right – Reunite:
Monday, Jan. 2: North Fort Myers Public Library, 2001 N. Tamiami Trial North Fort Myers, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 3: Veterans Park, 55 Homestead Road, Lehigh Acres, at the Lodge, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents arriving with stray animals they have found are asked to have dogs secured on leashes and cats placed in carriers. LCDAS’ mobile food pantry will also be on-site with dog and cat food as well for those in need.
Animal Services staff conducted Do What’s Right – Reunite after Independence Day earlier this year and it was well-received.

The Cape Coral Police Department proudly announces our annual Fill the Boat Toy Drive. This event was created here in Cape Coral by Cape Coral Police Officer (US Coast Guard Reserve) Matt Squires 16 years ago.
December 2, 2022, through December 4, 2022, the Cape Coral Police Department will hold its 16th Annual Fill The Boat Toy Drive. Our Marine Boat will be stationed at the Walmart Supercenter (1619 Del Prado Blvd South) on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 3, 2022, & Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m.
Those wishing to participate can purchase a new unwrapped toy and place it in the boat. At the end of the toy drive, the toys will be taken to the Cape Coral Police Department, where they are distributed to children in need throughout Cape Coral in time for the holidays.
The 3rd Annual Blessing of the Pets was originally scheduled to be held Sunday, October 2, 2022, however, it was canceled due to the impact of Hurricane Ian.
The event has been rescheduled and will now be held Sunday, November 20, 2022. The Blessing begins at 2 pm. Arrive at the shelter no later 1:30 pm.
The event is open to people and pets of all faiths.
Featuring special guests:
Pastor Cindy Jones, Grace United Methodist Church, and Rev. Dr. Mark McAnlis, Pastor of First Congregational Church.
Each participant will receive a prayer card and St. Francis medallion. A pet boutique (including people swag, too) will be on-site, as well as a photo station.
Dogs must be on a leash at all times (no retractable leashes). Cats, critters and other pets must be in a carrier.
