A call regarding suspicious activity at a business after hours resulted in the arrest of four people for a variety of serious charges.
On May 8, 2018, at approximately 4:10 a.m. officers responded to the parking lot of Sam’s Club located at 301 SW Pine Island Road after receiving a call regarding suspicious activity. Contact with the subjects and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of four men for several charges. The men were identified as: Channing Meitz (DOB: 1-12-90), Kaleb Crowell (DOB: 1-4-92), Paul Weigandt (DOB: 8-4-99), and Tristan Chaleunsouk (DOB: 3-10-00).
Two handguns were located (one reported stolen from a Cape Coral burglary), as well as several knives. Detectives with the Property Unit responded, and their investigation resulted in additional charges for burglary. The car the subjects were in was at one point thought to have been stolen out of Charlotte County, but upon contact with the owner by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined to have been an issue over drugs.
The oncoming day shift fielded several vehicle burglary reports in the adjacent area, and more charges may be pending.
