On Thursday evening June 23, the local community came together to put a SMACKDOWN on hunger!
The 3rd Annual SOS Smackdown was held at Dixie Roadhouse. Summers are difficult times for many in the community. Some of the reasons are many working families often have their hours at work cut because season is over. Their paychecks are lower and yet their bills are often higher. Adding to the mix, their children are home from school and adding to the grocery bill.
3,000 pounds of food and $3,100.00 was donated during our Smackdown event. The Cape Coral Caring Center will benefit from this wonderful event. The Cape Coral Caring Center is an emergency food pantry, helping local families with many emergency needs. The center never wants to turn income-qualified people away and this event helps with that mission. Local organizations came together, raising food and money to make sure no one has to know hunger.
The Smackdown 2016 winner for food was the 24th Avenue God Squad which was made up of the Center for Spiritual Living and Temple Beth Shalom. The winner for most money raised was the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association.
With the buying power of the Cape Coral Caring Center, $1 can turn into $6, so Hunger is being SMACKED DOWN in our community!
