The Shell Factory & Nature Park announced that it is the recipient of a generous gift, an antique carousel, courtesy of a local donor.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been a longtime visitor to the Shell Factory and is grateful the family-fun destination could accept the donation and keep the carousel close to home. Located at 16554 N. Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers, the attraction is now open and operates seven days a week during normal business hours.

Built in the 1920s, the full-size carousel was produced by the C.W. Parker Company. Encompassing a 36-foot diameter, the ride boasts two chariots and 20 painted horses and travels at three miles per hour. For the young and old alike, the three-and-a-half-minute ride is accompanied by calliope music and gives riders the magical experience of taking a stroll down memory lane. The cost to ride the carousel is $1 per person.

A true labor of love, all Shell Factory & Nature Park employees had a hand in helping to restore and repair the carousel prior to assembling it on the property. Much of the time spent painting, sanding and retrofitting was on a volunteer basis.

“We are truly blessed to be the recipient of this generous gift,” said Pam Cronin, owner of the Shell Factory. “I attend the IAAPA show every year and marvel at the spectacular three-story carousel on display. We look forward to sharing the ride with our visitors and the local community for years to come.”

Admission is FREE to all attendees, and veterans who present a military ID receive free admission to the nature park, a free round of mini-golf for four, hot dog and chips, tickets for two draft beers or one well drink and 20% off purchases in the retail store. Additionally, there will be a 50/50 raffle, with half of the proceeds benefitting the Southwest Florida Military Museum.

A veteran’s tribute begins at 2 p.m. and includes a special appearance by a local Vietnam veteran.

“This event is so meaningful to the Shell Factory team and the Southwest Florida community,” said Pam Cronin, Owner of The Shell Factory & Nature Park. “The past three years of hosting the event has afforded us the opportunity to meet veterans throughout the area and honor them for their service. This is an overall rewarding experience and a small way to show our appreciation for their sacrifice and dedication.”

Shell Factory’s Nature Park Celebrates 15 Years as a Rescue

The Shell Factory’s Nature Park will celebrate its 15th year as an animal rescue and educational foundation during the month of July.

Located at 16554 N. Cleveland Ave. in North Fort Myers, the venue will host a variety of activities in celebration of the milestone.

With over 400 critters to see, a majority of whom are rescued, the Nature Park will offer free admission to all visitors on July 13-14 and July 20-21.

The venue will offer a schedule of events for each day beginning at 10:30 a.m. (park opens at 10 a.m.). There will be daily birthday parties for the animals including cake for the guests, and opportunities to create enrichment items for the animals, as well as one lucky person will have a chance to win a free field trip for their class to visit the Nature Park (drawing held on July 31).

Other events happening throughout the month of July include raffles, a silent auction and an animal sponsorship program, all benefitting The Nature Park Environmental Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Through funding from the foundation, the Nature Park is able to provide a permanent home, nutritious meals and veterinary care for the animals, reptiles, birds and aquatic inhabitants. The foundation also funds the transportation for the field trip program with Lee County Schools, allowing classes to visit and enjoy an environmental learning experience.

“We are honored to be celebrating this wonderful milestone and are very grateful for the community’s support over the years,” said Pam Cronin, Owner of the Shell Factory. “When my husband and I created the Nature Park, we never envisioned that it would grow into what it is today. We wanted it to serve a purpose and the past fifteen years have been such a rewarding experience.”

Raffle tickets are available for purchase online at www.ShellFactory.com. Raffle items include a Yeti cooler filled with liquor and two adult bicycles.
