Shop with a Cop provides children whose families are having financial difficulties an opportunity to engage in a positive interaction with our Cape Coral Police Officers during the holidays.

Due to the change of the school calendar and because of Hurricane Irma, the Cape Coral Police Department’s 15th annual “Shop With a Cop” event will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017.
The event is sponsored by the Cape Coral Police Department’s “Do The Right Thing” program, which allows officers to spend positive one-on-one time with Cape Coral’s children whose families are having financial issues, focused on everyone having a great time!
Each year, the department chooses approximately 30-40 students to participate in the program. Students who are chosen to participate receive a Wal-Mart gift card. Students are picked up by police escorts and then taken to the store. There, with the help of their police officer, the students select gifts for each family member as well as something special for themselves.
After shopping, the students and officers head back to the police department where gifts are wrapped and the children enjoy a free lunch before they’re taken back home with their presents.
The “Do the Right Thing” program reinforces the idea of sharing and giving while promoting the idea that law enforcement role models are crucial to the development of our youth. The positive one-on-one experience each student receives from “Shop with a Cop” is one that is never forgotten.
