On January 28th, 2021 around 12:20 pm Caloosa Elementary School and Middle School went into a lockdown due to a student with a weapon on the middle school campus. The investigation revealed the student was suspected of being in possession of a vape pen.
The student was outside of the building and brought back inside. A loaded handgun was unexpectedly found inside his backpack.
The school administration followed their protocol and training, with the Administrator calling for a lockdown and for the School Resource Officer to respond. SRO Wilcox responded quickly and detained the student.
At no time was anyone’s life in danger during this encounter. The quick response of SRO Wilcox helped in keeping the situation from escalating or the student running off campus to avoid arrest. SRO Zalenski also responded quickly and assisted SRO Wilcox.
The administrations of Caloosa Elementary School and Caloosa Middle School were impressed with the level of safety and professionalism the SROs provided during the situation.
The student arrested was eighth grader Joshua Negron. Negron was charged with Possessing a Firearm on School Property and Possession of a Concealed Weapon.
