Yacht Club Beach to be Closed November 18-22 for Pavilion Demolition

The Yacht Club beach, located at 5819 Driftwood Parkway, will be closed November 18 through November 22 during the demolition of the pavilion building.
The beach will be closed during demolition work for safety reasons due to the operation of heavy equipment, dust, and debris. A portion of the parking spots at the Yacht Club also may be closed to facilitate the demolition work.
The structure, which was constructed in the 1960s, is in disrepair and requires significant renovations to bring it into compliance with today’s regulations. The building has been closed for the past year due to these concerns. The cost of demolition ($15,000) is significantly less than the cost for the necessary repairs. The funds will come from the Yacht Club Fund, not Parks GO Bond funding.
As part of the Parks Master Plan, improvements at the Yacht Club Community Park include an expansion of the beach. Sand is already staged at the Park, which will replace the pavilion. Removal of the beach pavilion is noted in many of the Parks GO Bond conceptual plans and also was discussed during recent community meetings held as part of the Parks GO Bond initiative.
During the demolition, other Yacht Club amenities will remain open. The beach is expected to reopen on Saturday, November 23.
