Missing Endangered Male Shoots at Cape Coral Police Headquarters

On October 20, 2019, around 11:15 pm, Officers were called to the 2500 block of SE 8th Ave due to a subject who was threatening self-harm, on foot in the area. A perimeter was set up to find the subject, later identified as Michael Wagner Jr. Officers were unable to find Wagner at that time, therefore a report was taken listing Wagner as a missing endangered person.

Around 2:50 am, A CCPD K-9 Officer was training in the parking lot of City Hall and heard a gunshot close by. The officer saw a white male, who was later identified as Wagner, wearing dark clothing, firing multiple shots with a handgun in the direction of Cape Coral Police Department headquarters.

While Wagner was running from Officers in the area, he was seen crossing Country Club Blvd near SE 9th Court. LCSO Aviation and a Lee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 were in the area helping search for Wagner. Aviation was able to locate Wagner behind a house in the 1000 block of SE 11th Terrace, where he was taken into custody.

During the apprehension he struck the police canine. Wagner’s firearm was located a short distance away and taken as evidence.

Later in the morning, around 7:40 am on October 21, 2019 a Public Works vehicle was found with multiple bullet holes in the driver side door and window. The Public Works vehicle was parked in the area Wagner ran from Officers.

Wagner was charged with two counts of Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles into Dwellings, Buildings or Vehicles and Offense Against Police Dogs.
